Abstract

This article discusses the emergence of transformation theory in education and its implications for Islamic education management. The background of this study departs from the demands of the times that demand the birth of a creative, innovative, and productive generation that is able to contribute to the development of society and the formation of a better global civilization. To answer these challenges, a new perspective is needed in the implementation of education, namely a transformative perspective. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a focus on transformative learning theory introduced by Jack Mezirow. This theory emphasizes the importance of changing the way students think through critical reflection on the experiences and values adhered to. In the context of Islamic education, this theory has developed into a transformative educational theory that is relevant in the face of the challenges of globalization and the dynamics of the 21st century. The implications of this approach require Islamic educational institutions to focus on improving the quality and competitiveness of the institution. The case study of the Nur Rahman Donorojo Islamic Boarding School shows that the application of a transformative approach has succeeded in improving the quality of education through the establishment of SMK Negeri 1 Donorojo in the pesantren environment. This is proof that the integration of transformation theory in Islamic education management can encourage institutional innovation and strengthen the contribution of Islamic education in community development.
